Mary is the masterpiece of all creation. The root of all the gifts she has received is none other than her prerogative as Mother of God.
Just as all the graces and gifts of the Holy Spirit within us are the effect of our predestination as God's adopted sons, so too for Mary, all the magnificent gifts that she has of her own come from her dignity as Mother of the divine Saviour.
Mary received from the eternal Father the most perfect maternal heart. There was never a touch of selfishness in that heart. This heart is a marvel of love, a treasure of graces, of all the graces that God wanted to give to creatures: gratia plena.
This heart was therefore shaped first of all for Christ, who, having come to his own, was not received there, and who found a compensation of love in his Mother. But, in addition, this heart existed for that other Christ, if we can speak in this way, which is the mystical body of Jesus.
The more we love God, the more we love our neighbour. It is the same for Mary; she embraces Christ and his members in the same love. She shares this love with her servants. The souls who are devotees of Mary obtain from her a very pure love; their whole life is a reflection of her life.
Saint Grignion de Montfort wrote: “This Mother of beautiful love will remove from your heart all scruples and all unruly slavish fear ... you will look upon God as your good Father, whom you will try to please incessantly, with whom you will converse confidentially like a child with his good father. If you come to offend Him by misfortune, you will immediately humble yourself before Him, humbly ask His forgiveness, simply extend a hand to Him, and you will raise yourself up lovingly without trouble or worry, and will continue to walk towards Him without discouragement.” (Treatise on True Devotion, No. 215).
Devotion to Mary is a grace that God gives to those who are dear to Him, and the Blessed Virgin will make Christ's love be born in their hearts.
