On Saturday, June 3, 2017, the Vigil of Pentecost, Bishop Bernard Fellay, Superior General of the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X, ordained five deacons at the Sacred Heart Seminary in Zaitzkofen.
The young Levites are all from different countries: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, and Russia. Our founder, Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre once said he saw it as a sign from God that young men filled with a true Catholic faith came from all four corners of the earth to join the Society.
In his sermon, the bishop explained the deacon’s two functions: to serve the altar and to proclaim the Gospel. He then recalled that his ordination gives the deacon a special relationship with the Holy Ghost, the Church, and the devil: he is filled with the strength, light, and holiness of the Holy Ghost; as a minister of the Church, he proclaims the Gospel and thus reminds souls of their last ends; lastly, in the words of the ordination rite, the deacon must resist the power of the devil, his pomps, and his ever more seductive works in this fallen world.
A large number of faithful, including a group of young people from Poland, participated in the ceremony and the celebration that followed.
The next day, on Pentecost Sunday, Bishop Fellay conferred the sacrament of Confirmation on manychildren, then celebrated a Pontifical High Mass, in which Heaven seemed to meet Earth and time melt into eternity.
The seminary is now busy preparing for the solemn celebrations of Corpus Christi and the priestly ordinations to be held on July 1.
